Strava Pluggins

Strava is one of the best sports trackers on the market, covering the core triathlon sports with a great deal of accuracy, and venturing in to the weird and wonderful realm of Nordic and Extreme Sports.

Building on this success are plugins, extensions and whole other web apps, using the core raw data to supply more niche read outs and graphical representation. A lot of the ‘extensions’ are climate or environmental focused and my current favourite is MyWindsock along side Veloviewer.

Now just to clarify I’m no athlete in anyway, going for a walk/hike and riding the mountain are purely for fun. These activities are my escape from the digital world; but everything can be measured or tracked, and I do like to make use of all my Apple Watch offers. The extra data this and the applications provide will give insights to people taking its a whole lot more seriously than I do, I’m a massive data nerd so their outputs at least exercise my mind (its a muscle after all).

Kilmat App

Not only does Klimat plug in to Strava it also communicates with other workout and fitness platforms.

For Strava it adds weather data to the activities post, an interesting indicator of the conditions, the two lines of snappy data give all the weather data you need, compared to weather data (on the right) Strava provide.

MyWindsock

Building on the climate conditions and the gradients you’ve just rode up, MyWindsock shows how the wind was affecting your ride. Either a head wind (red) or a very friendly tail wind (blue), or the bugger of all cross winds (purple).

The data is added to your cycling work out automatically on completion, seen in the first image below the Kilmat Data.

Veloviewer

Used by the UCI to map the gradients of the routes cyclists are about the ride or ride down, Veloviewer plugs in to Strava to give the user an idea of the terrain they’ve ridden.

Sauce For Strava

The missing data, Sauce for Strava is browser extension that automatically updates the data on your recent exercise.

So how many beers did that workout really earn you? What was your Peak HR? Speed Vs Heart Rate?

Epic Ride Weather

Another weather related app for Strava, but rather telling you what the weather has been.

Epic Ride Weather gives the forecast in great detail on your chosen route, after linking to your Strava account it can provide weather forecasts on a previously recorded activity if you’re going somewhere similar up to 10 days ahead.

Hope there is something useful in these Strava plugins. I’m always looking for more data to play with, so if you have a recommendation send it over.
